TOWN
OF KABETOGAMA Chairman
Jack McMahon opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. All attending recited the Pledge
of Allegiance. In attendance were Supervisors Richard McGregor, Jack
McMahon, Edward Town, Treasurer Jean Reichow, Clerk Mary Manninen and Deputy
Clerk, Marlene Tomczak along with 5 local residents. The minutes
from the November meeting were passed out, read and approved with one correction,
the name (Zahn) had been misspelled. The motion was made by Chairman Jack
McMahon, seconded by Supervisor Edward Town. Motion carried. The Financial
report was read by Treasurer Jean Reichow. The report was as follows: Township
Account Financial
Report approved on a motion by Supervisor Edward Town. Seconded by Supervisor
Richard McGregor. Motion carried. Jean will call and ask what the check for
$1,097.00 from the County was for. Old
Business: Chairman
Jack McMahon signed the contract from North American Wetland Engineering to
do the study for the waster water treatment system. New
Business: The Kabetogama
Fire department needs a new flag for outside of the building. Chairman Jack
McMahon made a motion that the Kabetogama Township purchase the new flag.
This motion was seconded by Supervisor Richard McGregor. Motion carried. Jean
Reichow will first contact the VFW and see if flags are available there if
not, one can be purchased in International Falls. The Township
received a letter from the Koochiching County Commissioners asking for a $500.00
donation for provision of television service to our area from the Countys
tower in the Kabetogama area. The County budgets $51,000 to provide television
service but this budget was cut by over $1,000.00. This money is used for
purchasing parts and supplies for the tower. The Supervisors, along with some
of the local residents, decided not to donate the money at this time. An explanation
on this matter will be added to the next Community Club newsletter. Residents
will have the opportunity at that time to express their opinion on the matter.
Elections:
Supervisor Edward Town will run for 2 years, Supervisor Richard McGregor will
run for 3 years, Treasurer Jean Reichow will run for 1 year and Clerk Mary
Manninen will run for 2 years. This information will be posted in the local
newspaper to inform other township residents of the upcoming election and
the opportunity to run for one of the offices. Fire Hall:
The Kabetogama Fire Department has paid St. Louis County to plow out the Fire
Hall. As of this meeting the county had not made an attempt to plow at all.
Supervisor Richard McGregor will make some calls to the County regarding this
matter. Chairman
Jack McMahon suggested that a Kabetogama Township sign be installed along
the road at the start of the Township. Jack will research this matter. A question
was raised with regards to the Kabetogama Fire Department responding to fire
calls down to Ash River Trail. The department does not have enough equipment
or manpower to respond to a call at Ash River Trail. Responding to Ash River
would leave the Kabetogama Township without protection. The Fire Department
has formed a committee to research this problem. The Kabetogama Township will
also research this matter and report back at the January meeting. The following
claims to be paid were approved on a motion by Supervisor Richard McGregor.
Seconded by Chairman Jack McMahon. Motion carried. Claims:
1207 Jack
McMahon Wages $46.17 Respectfully
submitted, Mary Manninen,
