KABETOGAMA TOWNSHIP REGULAR MEETING December 1, 2009
Chairman Nevalainen opened the meeting at 7:00 pm. Board members present were Supervisor Town, Clerk Manninen, Deputy Clerk Tomczak and Treasurer Kiner along with 7 guests. All attending recited the Pledge of Allegiance. There was a moment of silence for Supervisor Richard McGregor who passed away in November.
Agenda – with the removal of one item (Commission Forsman) from the agenda, it was then approved on a motion by Chairman Nevalainen, seconded by Supervisor Town, motion carried.
Minutes – the minutes were reviewed by all present. The minutes were approved on a motion by Supervisor Town, seconded by Chairman Nevalainen, motion carried.
The following treasurer’s report was given by Treasurer Kiner;
Lodging Tax Deposits for October, $765.39, 3% to township $22.96, Lodging Tax Disbursed to Tourism Bureau $742.43.
November Payroll – Jill Kiner, $140.36; Manninen, $341.11; Nevalainen, $161.84; Town, $130.97; McGregor, $130.97.
The treasurer’s report was approved on a motion by Chairman Nevalainen, seconded by Supervisor Town, motion carried.
Chairman Nevalainen moved to approve the following claims, seconded by Supervisor Town, motion carried.
Old Business –
Roads – Commissioner Forsman was not able to attend because of another obligation he had. He will try and attend the January 5, 2010 meeting. The snow plowing contract has been signed with Four Seasons Property Management for the 09-10 seasons. Ed will contact St. Louis again about plowing roads.
Namakan Basin – received a letter from the Army Corp of Engineers (569 projects selected for 2010), we were not on the list but are asked to reapply again for next year.
Town Hall Report – nothing new at this time
Governor’s Opener Report – time lime seems to be on track for now and boat raffle ticket sales are going very well.
Emergency Warning System – Fire Chief Larry Warrington gave paperwork to Chairman Nevalainen from Rural Development. First in the process is to get a monetary plan set up. Chairman Nevalainen has made some contacts on the matter and will report back at a later date.
Canister Site – Greg House piled up the debris at the canister site for burning.
Fire Contract – will be acted upon prior to the January Township meeting.
New Business –
Supervisor – the remaining Supervisors and the town clerk will appointment a temporary Supervisor to replace Richard McGregor. This will be acted upon at the January meeting.
Clerk Manninen was asked to write a letter to AT& T regarding the cell tower that does not have very good range to it.
A question was brought up about the increase of the taxable market value. No action was taken at this time.
Chairman Nevalainen moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:40 pm, seconded by Supervisor Town, motion carried.
