KABETOGAMA TOWNSHIP REGULAR MEETING November 10, 2008
Chairman Nevalainen opened the meeting at 7:08 pm. Board members present were Supervisors Town and McGregor, Treasurer Kiner, Clerk Manninen, Deputy Clerk Tomczak along with 7 guests. All attending recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
Agenda - The Agenda was approved with two additions of the following items, Thank you letter to R. Moyer under new business and PPSSD to old business, on a motion by Supervisor Town, seconded by Supervisor McGregor. Motion carried.
Minutes – the minutes were reviewed by all present. The minutes were approved on a motion by Supervisor Town, seconded by Supervisor McGregor, motion carried.
Treasurers Report –
Payroll – Jill Kiner, $140.36; Manninen, $329.88; Nevalainen, $203.94; Town, $46.78; McGregor, $46.77.
The treasurer’s report was approved on a motion by Supervisor McGregor, seconded by Supervisor Town, motion carried.
The certificate of deposit is due now, Supervisor Town moved to have the certificate renewed for 6 months in the amount of $25,000.00 and deposit the balance $3,662.90 into the general fund. Motion seconded by Chairman Nevalainen, motion carried.
Old Business –
Chairman Nevalainen read the letter that was drafted to be sent to Mike Forsman regarding the concerns of our roads at Kabetogama. Chairman Nevalainen moved to have this letter sent immediately, seconded by Supervisor McGregor, motion carried.
Supervisor Town was asked to contact St. Louis County regarding more road issues that need immediate attention.
Snow Plowing Contract – There was only one bid submitted to the township for plowing Pucks Point Road for the 2008-09 winter seasons. Four Seasons Property Management was awarded the contract. Chairman Nevalainen moved to accept the bid from Four Seasons Property Management on the terms of the contract drafted up by the Township. Seconded by Supervisor McGregor, motion carried. The contractor has the proper insurance and will submit a letter to the township stating that the owner is the sole proprietor of the business.
A letter was drafted and sent out to the DNR expressing the township’s concerns regarding the maintenance of Woodenfrog State Forest Campground.
The Kabetogama canister site was piled up properly by Greg House and then burnt by the Kabetogama Fire Department. The township was very pleased with the work Mr. House performed.
Community Center Report –
Betsy Warrington, Sande Moyer and Marlene Tomczak attended a training seminar at RRCC title Fundraising for Non-profits. Myrna Meadows was the trainer and it was very informative.
Chairman Nevalainen signed the contract with Jim Cowgill and a copy will be sent back to him. Sande Moyer reported that there is an opening on the committee for the Community Center as Mary Tomczak has resigned. Anyone interested in helping this group out please contact a board member of the Community Club.
Internet at the Fire Hall – the township decided that the fire department could order and pay for their own DSL internet at this time.
Governor’s Fishing Opener – Christy Jacobs gave a report. The Lake Association is currently waiting for a decision as to weather or not this area has been chosen. Red Wing is the other submission that was sent in and being considered.
PPSSD/Namakan Basin – Chairman Nevalainen read the letter to the board that he received from the IRRB stating that they had received our application of October 8th and are reviewing it and will get back to us in the near future.
Fire Chief Larry Warrington read the letter that he had drafted and sent to the Superintendent of Voyageurs National Park regarding the proposed installation of a dry hydrant in the park. Chairman Nevalainen moved to also have the township send a letter to the park Superintendent stating the townships support of the hydrant. Motion seconded by Supervisor McGregor, motion carried.
New Business -
Election results - Clerk Manninen read the results for the township election. They were as follows;
Office of Supervisor, Robert Nevalainen 61, Larry Warrington 53. For the office of Clerk, Mary Manninen 86, Christy Jacobs 21, Mary Tomczak 2. The board of supervisors approved the results.
The township Supervisors will meet with a quorum of the board for the Kabetogama Fire Department on January 6th 1 hour prior to the township meeting to discuss the fire departments budget. This will be posted in the paper in late December.
A thank you letter will be sent to Ron Moyer for creating the wonderful election sign used outside the fire hall for this years elections.
Claims – There was a motion by Supervisor McGregor to approve the following claims, seconded by Chairman Nevalainen. Motion carried.
Chairman Nevalainen moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:23 pm, seconded by Supervisor McGregor, motion carried.
