OF KABETOGAMA
REGULAR BOARD MEETING
October 7, 2003
Chairman
Jack McMahon opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. All attending recited the Pledge
of Allegiance. In attendance were Supervisorís Richard McGregor, Jack
McMahon, Treasurer Jean Reichow, Deputy Clerk, Marlene Tomczak along with
15 local residents and one representative from the Voyageur Sentinal Newspaper.
The agenda was approved on a motion by Supervisor Jack McMahon seconded by
Supervisor Richard McGregor. Motion carried.
The minutes from the September meeting were passed out, read and approved
on a motion by Chairman Jack McMahon, seconded by Supervisor Richard McGregor.
Motion carried.
The Financial report was read by Treasurer Jean Reichow. The report was as
follows:

There was no report for the lodging tax. As of this date the balance was the
same as the end of August. Financial Report approved on a motion by Supervisor
Richard McGregor. Seconded by Chairman Jack McMahon. Motion carried.
Old Business:
The Kabetogama Township received a letter regarding the road signs from St.
Louis County. The information has been forwarded to Chris Morris in the Public
Works Dept. for appropriate action.
Chairman Jack McMahon gave a report on the special September 11, 2003 meeting,
interviewing engineers to do the study for the waster water treatment system.
He stated that they interviewed three engineering firms and the decision was
unanimous that North American Wetland Engineering was the best choice. A motion
was made by Chairman Jack McMahon to elect North American Wetland Engineering
to do the study for the waster water treatment system for the Kabetogama Township.
Supervisor Richard McGregor seconded. Motion carried.
New Business:
Ron Moyer, representing the Kabetogama Fire Department, requested the Kabetogama
Township help find someone to bulldoze the landfill at the canister site,
so that the Fire Department could burn it after it snows. The Minnesota Department
of Forestry will be contacted along with local operators.
Jean Reichow reported a check received from the State of Minnesota, Department
of Finance, State Fire Aid for the amount of $6,065.00. It was not known if
the check was for the Fire Department or the Township. Ron Moyer will call
the phone number listed to find out to whom it belongs.
A letter was read from St. Louis County regarding state cuts to Townships
in Market Value Homestead Credit. The State of Minnesota will be cutting the
amount of Market Value Homestead credit for 2003 & 2004. The amounts for
the Town of Kabetogama to be cut are $1,501.00 in 2003 and $2,251.00 in 2004.
Therefore, the Township will be short these amounts levied. The Town of Kabetogama
could hold a special Town meeting to increase the levy by these amounts. It
must be recertified by December 29th 2003. This decision was tabled until
the November meeting.
A statement from the Assessor was read, the amount for 2003 assessors fees
was $7,683.00. This amount was added to the claims to be approved at this
meeting.
Ed Arndt and a contingent of residents of Sunset Forest Road made a presentation
before the Kabetogama Township board requesting the Town of Kabetogama to
act as general contractor to improve the Sunset Forest road and to assess
the residents the cost of the improvements. Their concerns are that the Fire
Department or ambulance canít service them because of the condition
of the road. Chairman Jack McMahon said he wouldnít advise the Township
to pursue this project without legal consul. He said he would send the prepared
packet to the Minnesota Association of Townships attorney requesting an opinion.
A letter from the Kabetogama Tourism Bureau was read, requesting the Township
approval of the Board of Directors. They are, Larry Kec, Jack McMahon and
Marlys Kingery. Supervisor Richard McGregor made a motion to approve the incoming
directors. Chairman Jack McMahon seconded. Motion carried
The following claims to be paid were approved on a motion by Supervisor Richard
McGregor. Seconded by Chairman Jack McMahon. Motion carried.
