KABETOGAMA TOWNSHIP Chairman Jack McMahon opened the board meeting at 7:05 pm with the Pledge of Allegiance. All board members were present along with 12 community residents and two guests from Ash River Trail. The Agenda for this meeting was approved on a motion by Chairman J. McMahon. Seconded by Supervisor R. McGregor, motion carried. The minutes of the July meeting were reviewed by the board and approved on a motion by Supervisor R. McGregor. Seconded by Chairman J. McMahon, motion carried. The treasurer's report was read J. Reichow as follows: Beginning Balance $7,574.38 Lodging Tax Account, Beginning Balance $3,873.26 These amounts were approved on a motion by Supervisor R. McGregor. Seconded by Chairman J. McMahon, motion carried. Old Business: Ash River Trail Fire Protection - Mark & Lynette Hraban from Ash River Trail attended this meeting as representatives for the trail. The contacts they made at Ash River were very receptive to being charged in some manner for their fire protection from the Kabetogama Fire Dept. Numerous residents from Ash River Trail propose to join the Kabetogama Fire district. Currently this will be on a personal basis and proposals must be obtained from residents who wish to have this fire protection. These proposals will be brought to the Kabetogama Fire Dept. who will work closely with these residents and get a written agreement made with them as soon as possible. The Kabetogama Township board agrees with this procedure and any further proceedings on this matter. Ordinances - St. Louis County has a car ordinance in place that states a property owner may have five unlicensed vehicles on their property that can be seen from the road and any surrounding properties and an unlimited number of vehicles on their premises that cannot be seen from the road or any surrounding properties. The township does not need to create their own ordinance on this matter. Chairman J. McMahon will contact the property owner who is in violation of this ordinance and try to resolve the situation. If there seems to be no results, the St. Louis County Sheriff's department will be contacted.A question was raised regarding the date of the Township Annual meeting. This date had been set by the Minnesota Association of Townships and all meetings are held on this same date. A question was raised regarding absentee voting on the township levy. The Minnesota Association of Townships lawyer was contacted regarding this question and stated that the levy is voted on in person by registered voters (Kabetogama Township) at the annual town meeting with either a hand count or paper count. There are no absentee ballots sent out for this vote. New Business: There was a lengthy discussion between the Township board and members of the Kabetogama Fire dept regarding new structures that may be built in the area. They determined that there should be communication with the St. Louis County Planning & Zoning department to ensure these structures are built within reason so the Kabetogama Fire Department could provide the necessary fire protection. The Kabetogama Fire dept will be given copies of all planning and zoning letters received from St. Louis County. Sande Moyer reported that to date there have been 59 response sheets received regarding the community hall. All comment sheets are on file and may be viewed by the public at any time. The community hall committee members are still accepting comment sheets. Claims: The following claims were approved on a motion by Supervisor E. Town. Seconded by Supervisor R.
