TOWN OF KABETOGAMA
REGULAR BOARD MEETING
June 3, 2003


Chairman Jack McMahon opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. All attending recited the Pledge of Allegiance. In attendance were Supervisor’s Edward Town, Richard McGregor, Jack McMahon, Treasurer Jean Reichow, and Acting Secretary, Sande Moyer. There were 25 residents and 2 representatives from the Voyageur Sentinel Newspaper present.

The agenda was approved on a motion by Chairman Jack McMahon, seconded by Supervisor Edward Town. Motion carried.

The minutes from the May 6th meeting were passed out, read and approved on a motion by Supervisor Edward Town, seconded by Supervisor Richard McGregor. Motion carried.

The Financial report was read by Treasurer Jean Reichow. The report was as follows:

Financial Report approved on a motion by Supervisor Edward Town. Seconded by Supervisor Richard McGregor, motion carried.

Old Business:

A report was given by Supervisor Edward Town from his attendance at the Rainy Lake Water Basin meeting. This meeting did not pertain to lake levels in our area.


Jean Reichow reported that no further action has been taken at this time on plans for a new Community Hall. Investigation into possible grants available will begin soon.

Discussion on the new construction of the kiosk to be located across from Gateway store was held. There needs to be new engineering studies done and the committee is asking St. Louis County for help in this matter.
Ron Moyer, from the Kabetogama Fire Department, reported that the building permit for the new heated garage has been applied for and that Carl Muggli has been chosen to build a stick frame building sheathed outside and inside with steel. Les Malanowski will do the concrete work.

Waste Water Treatment – A wastewater information display will be set up at the pancake breakfast, June 22, at the Senior Citizens’ Building. Bridgett Chard, an independent consultant on wastewater treatment and Ken Olsen, from the University of Minnesota will be there to answer questions and hand out information on varying types of treatment systems. On July 7, two seminars will be held one in the morning and one in the evening to provide information on treatment systems. On July 8, a question and answer session will be held. Exact times for these meeting will be provided as soon as they are available.

New Business:

Supervisor Richard McGregor reported that there will be a hazard waste collection on August 21, from 11 to 2 at the Township solid waste collection site.

In answer to a question from a resident, Sande Moyer reported that the current Zip Code, 56669, is now listed in most computer systems as Kabetogama instead of Ray. The problem with getting newsletters from the county has yet to be resolved. It was also asked that anyone receiving mail addressed to “Gateway, MN” to please contact the sender and have Gateway removed from their mailing lists.

Discussion on getting Township information on the web site in a more timely manner was tabled until next meeting.

Larry Scott made a complaint on the removal of sod from the side of the road in front of his house. This was done when the road was graded. Supervisor, Richard McGregor, the road commissioner will look into the matter.
Several residents living on the township roads felt that the work on the roads recently has been very satisfactory
A change in the stop sign location at Northern Lights and Pock Point was discussed. Currently it is difficult to see traffic coming from Northern Lights.

It was questioned why the bike path was not completed as originally planned. This was a county project and it was suggested that Mike Forseman be contacted on this matter.

The following claims to be paid were approved on a motion by Supervisor Edward Town. Seconded by Supervisor Richard McGregor. Motion carried.
