Kabetogama Township Checking Account,
Lodging Tax Account,
Old Business:
Walleye – The final touches to the improvements at the corner are to paint the fish and base and add two decals to the entrance sign. The Kabetogama Lake Association has proposed that the costs be distributed between the Lake Association, Township and the Community Club. Vice Chairman Edward Town moved to pay 1/3 of this cost, seconded by Supervisor Robert Nevalainen, motion carried.
Fire Protection – Fire Chief Larry Warrington drafted the following letter;
The Township Board of Kabetogama, as the funding agent for Kabetogama Fire Department, is asking that fire protection & First Responder service outside of Kabetogama Township be stopped as of October 1, 2005. The main objective of the Kabetogama Fire Department is to protect the residents of Kabetogama Township, who are levied tax dollars for this coverage.
If fire coverage outside of the township is desired, revenue must be collected in order to cover related costs. The way to accomplish this is to contract with the Kabetogama Fire Department, and then tax dollars would be assessed each year and paid to St. Louis County, who in turn would fund Kabetogama.
These increased revenues would enable the Kabetogama Fire Department to provide protection by increasing the amount of equipment and members and housing for the equipment. It is suggested that residents outside Kabetogama Township petition St. Louis County for tax assessment for fire coverage, and then enter into contract coverage with Kabetogama Fire Department.
Supervisor Robert Nevalainen moved to accept this letter and have it printed and posted, seconded by Vice Chairman Edward Town, motion carried.
Mandatory voting machines – While at the spring short courses, Supervisor Robert Nevalainen brought back information stating that in the very near future Minnesota will require all voting to be done with voting machines and also counting machines. The costs of this would be very expensive for small townships like us. Vice Chairman Edward Town moved that Clerk Mary Manninen draft a letter that states our strong disagreement with this process. This letter will be sent to our state senator and representatives. Supervisor Robert Nevalainen seconded this motion, motion carried.
Community Building Committee – Sande Moyer reported that this committed is still looking into some private land and now possibly some tax forfeited land. Marlene Tomczak has spoken with John Stegmeir regarding the possibility of obtaining some state land also. David Dill would like to help in gaining some grant money from the IRRRB.
New Business,
Supervisor Edward Town has been approached by some township residents about possibly getting cell phone service in our immediate area. This will be pursued and more information will be obtained for the next meeting.
Kabetogama Township Planning Committee – the township would like all persons who have asked to be on this committee to attend the May board meeting. The board would like to establish this committee at that meeting so they can begin the planning work. Claims,
The following claims were approved on a motion by Supervisor Robert Nevalainen. Seconded by Vice Chairman Edward Town, motion carried.
The meeting was adjourned on a motion by Vice Chairman Edward Town, seconded by Supervisor Robert Nevalainen, motion carried.
