KABETOGAMA TOWNSHIP REGULAR MEETING February 3, 2009
Supervisor Town opened the meeting at 7:10 pm. Board members present were Supervisor McGregor, Treasurer Kiner and Clerk Manninen, along with 1 guest. All attending recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
Agenda - The Agenda was approved on a motion by Supervisor Town, seconded by Supervisor McGregor. Motion carried.
Minutes – the minutes were reviewed by all present. The minutes were approved on a motion by Supervisor Town, seconded by Supervisor McGregor, motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report -
Payroll – Jill Kiner, $123.75; Manninen, $341.10; Nevalainen, $245.10; Town, $46.78; McGregor, $46.77.
The treasurer’s report was approved on a motion by Supervisor McGregor, seconded by Supervisor Town, motion carried.
Old Business –
Namakan Basin update – Presentation, Gary Cerkvenik wrote; we are set up for a presentation of our project to Representative Dill, Representative Anzelc and Senator Saxhaug on Wednesday February 11, 2009, at 6:00 pm at the State Office Building in St. Paul. My intent is to have a general discussion of the project, our short and long-term funding plan, and to ask for advice from the local legislators for funding from the increased sales tax amendment for our project. The Koochiching project will be discussed as well. Supervisor Town moved to allow Chairman Nevalainen and Tim Watson (Namakan Basin reps for Kabetogama Township) to attend this meeting with expenses reimbursed and wages. Seconded by Supervisor McGregor, motion carried.
The following agenda items are tabled to the March meeting – Shovel Ready, Town Hall Rental Policy, Community Entrance, Roads.
Planning Committee Position – Two notices will be posted this month to apply for the planning commission position that has come due. Anyone interested should send a written application stating why they would like to be on this committee to the Kabetogama Township, Box 305, Kabetogama, MN 56669.. Applicants must be a resident of the Kabetogama Township. The Township board of Supervisors will choose the candidate at the March board meeting.
Clerk Manninen will send letters to Mike Ward from VNP inviting him to attend a township meeting and a letter to Gary Amundson inviting him to a planning commission meeting.
Community Hall Report – No report but Supervisor Town commented that he thinks that the driveway to the overflow parking should be moved because when leaving the parking lot you have a very limited view of oncoming traffic.
New Business –
The 2010 township levy will be voted on at the Township Annual meeting in March. Clerk Manninen will get copies of past levies so the board can review them and have a discussion on the levy amounts at the regular March board meeting.
Clerk Manninen will research when Supervisor’s Town and McGregor need to get additional training for the local board of appeals meetings.
There is a township board member training coming up in March and April. The closest training opportunity is in Tower, MN on Friday, April, 3, 2009 at the Fortune Bay Casino.
Supervisor McGregor moved to accept the following claims, seconded by Supervisor Town, motion carried.
Supervisor McGregor moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:0 pm, seconded by Supervisor Town, motion carried.
