TOWN OF KABETOGAMA
REGULAR BOARD MEETING
January 6, 2004


Chairman Jack McMahon opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. All attending recited the Pledge of Allegiance. In attendance were Supervisor’s Richard McGregor, Jack McMahon, Edward Town, Treasurer Jean Reichow, Clerk Mary Manninen and Deputy Clerk, Marlene Tomczak along with 8 local residents.
The minutes from the December meeting were read and approved with one correction. Change the word term to years when referring to the length of time the candidate is running for. The motion was made by Chairman Jack McMahon. Seconded by Supervisor Richard McGregor. Motion carried.
The Financial report was read by Treasurer Jean Reichow. The report was as follows:

Financial Report approved on a motion by Chairman Jack McMahon. Seconded by Supervisor Richard McGregor. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Chairman Jack McMahon to invest $25,000 into a certificate. Seconded by Supervisor Richard McGregor. Motion carried.

Old Business:
Jean and Dick Reichow obtained and donated the new flag for the fire hall.
Greg House was unable to move the debris piles at the canister site for the fire department to burn. They were too frozen to move. The debris will be burned in the early spring.
Jack McMahon contacted a company to make the Township entrance sign for the highway. The cost is $50.00 and does not include the installation.
The county has agreed to plow a swatch through the fire department drive ASAP and after the main roads have been cleared, they will come back and finish clearing the snow.

Robert Nevalainen from the Kabetogama Fire department brought more information to the township regarding leaving the Kabetogama area to fight fires. Mr. Nevalainen asked the township supervisors their opinion on this matter. Supervisor Richard McGregor made a motion to have the Kabetogama Fire department pursue the 6 unorganized townships and have a contract drawn up for fire protection. Supervisor Edward Town seconded the motion. Motion carried. Chairman Jack McMahon was not in agreement with this decision. More information will be available at a later date. The subject will be put on the agenda for the Township annual meeting in March.
All NEW liquor license applications to be approved must be brought before the township board. The business owners need to call the clerk and be put on the agenda ASAP in order for the clerk to be able to sign the paperwork. Establishments needing yearly renewals should also contact the clerk to be put on the agenda so they may attend a board meeting and have their paperwork signed.

New Business:
The township supervisors reviewed the tentative unapproved 2005 levy. They were in agreement with the new amount and it will be brought before the township residents for a vote of approval at the annual township meeting held in March.
