KABETOGAMA TOWNSHIP PLANNING BOARD

MEETING MINUTES

APRIL 30, 2007

The meeting was held at the Kabetogama Community Hall and called to order at 7:10 p.m.  Members present were Paul Kiner, Marlene Tomczak, Phil Hart, Niles Wilkins, Betsey Warrington and Bob Nevalainen.  Also attending were Ben VanTassel, ARDC and Kathleen Przybylski, VNP.

Under Old Business:

  1. By-laws were discussed.  Betsey made a motion that an amendment should be made to have Planning Board elections approved by the Township Board.  Marlene seconded.  There being two ayes and three nays, the motion was not passed.
  2. Phil Hart was nominated to serve as vice-chair.  There being no more nominations, Phil was chosen to serve in that position.  Paul is chairman and Betsey is secretary.  Marlene offered to substitute as secretary when needed.
  3. Bob reported that a sign for parking at the Arrowhead Trailhead will be installed.
  4. Bob has sent a copy of St. Louis County’s ordinance and the Kabetogama Fire Dept. requirements for road widths to VNP for their consideration to comply with legal road widths on Cedar Cove Rd.

Under New Business

1.      Signage on county roads was discussed.  Some signs are in disrepair and several new signs have been installed.  If this becomes a problem, more action may be taken.  It was suggested that the Community Club could send letters to the sign owners in the interest of maintaining the aesthetics of the entire community.

2.      The Comprehensive Plan Draft was discussed.  Signage is addressed in the plan.  St. Louis Co. has been contacted for their input.  A few more changes were made.  The plan can be reviewed on the Kabetogama Township website.  There will be a public meeting to discuss the plan on August 1.  The meeting will be published and Phil will get letters to all residents.

Committee Reports:

1.      Marlene reported that the paint received from the Valspar grant was even better than anticipated.  The company will be donating 30 gallons of paint, which includes primer, trim and deck paint.  Volunteers are needed to paint the community hall when the paint arrives.

2.      Betsey reported on the Trail Clearing Weekend.  Several volunteers participated as well as staff from VNP.  Two and one half miles of the Kab-Ash Trail were cleared.

3.      Betsey reported on the Landowner Work Meeting for Puck’s Point Subordinate Service District.  The meeting was very informative and a plan of action was established.  The minutes of the meeting can be viewed on the Kabetogama Township website.

There being no further business, Phil moved to adjourn, seconded by Niles.  All in favor, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Betsey Warrington, secretary
