KABETOGAMA TOWNSHIP PLANNING BOARD

MINUTES

March 3, 2008

The meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. by chairman, Paul Kiner.  Members present were Paul Kiner, Niles Wilkins, Phil Hart, Marlene Tomczak,  and Betsey Warrington.  Also present was Kabetogama Township liaison, Bob Nevalainen.

The minutes from the February 4 Planning Board meeting were read.  A correction was made stating that the cell town located on Melheim Rd. is owned by Central States Tower, not AT&T.  Marlene Tomczak moved to approve the minutes with the change and Phil Hart seconded the motion.  All in favor, the motion carried.

Under Old Business:  The Final Draft of the Comprehensive Plan will be presented to the Township Board at their regular monthly meeting Mar. 4 by Ben VanTassel of ARDC.

Under New Business:  No one has applied to fill the two open positions on the Planning Board at this time.  Phil Hart has agreed to retain his spot if the meetings can become more limited.  Niles Wilkins said that if no one comes forward, he would consider retaining his position as well, with a new meeting schedule.  A discussion followed considering a quarterly schedule for Planning Board meetings unless the Township Board requested a special meeting.  The meetings would be held on the Monday before the regularly scheduled Township Board meetings in the months of January, April, July and October.  This recommendation will be presented to the Township Board.

Committee Reports:

Community Hall – Nothing new to report on at this time.

Voyageurs National Park – A presentation was made regarding new campsites in the park.  Chris Hollbeck will be invited to attend the Lake Assoc. annual Spring meeting on April 24 to present the plan.  The public is invited to attend the presentation.

Trails/Roads – Most of the dips in the roads have been filled by the county.

Subordinate Service District – Funding options are being discussed.  The Township has hired Gary Cervenik to apply for state and federal funding appropriations.  He’ll also be contacting St. Louis County.

There being no further business, Marlene Tomczak moved to adjourn.  Niles Wilkins seconded.  The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Betsey Warrington, secretary
