Kabetogama Township Planning Board

Meeting Minutes

February 5, 2007

 

The meeting was called to order by chairman, Paul Kiner at 7:00 p.m.  Members present were Paul, Bob Nevalainen and Betsey Warrington.  Niles Wilkins, Alan Burchall and Phil Hart were absent.  Kathleen Przybylski and Lee Herseth were also in attendance.

 

The changes that were made to the Comprehensive Plan draft #3 at the January meeting were gone over.  No changes were made by ARDC in draft #4, so Paul will contact Andy Hubley and Ben VanTassel to have this corrected.  This draft can be viewed on the Kabetogama Township website where there is a link to “Draft Kabetogama Township Comprehensive Plan”.  Residents are encouraged to view the draft and make recommendations to either ARDC or to any member of the planning board.  A public hearing to discuss the plan will be announced at a later date.

 

Under Committee Reports:

Trails – VNPA has received a $10,000 grant from the Quetico Superior Foundation for    

              trail maintenance.  Last year’s grant of $8,000 enabled several volunteers to

              work together with VNP to clear several miles of the Kab-Ash Trail.  They will

              be meeting Feb. 6 to discuss a plan for 2007.  Two trail clearing weekends will

              be held in May and September.

 

              Some suggestions for projects were made including 1.maintaining the parking

              area at the Kab-Ash trailhead off Salmi Rd.  2.constructing a loop to connect

              the Kab-Ash Trail to the Arrowhead Trail 3.relime the section of the Kab-Ash

              Trail that is on state property to inhibit weed growth

 

              Kabetogama Township will be mowing the Arrowhead Trail to make it more

              accessible to hikers.

 

Community Center – The Planning Committee will be meeting Feb. 12 with Okey Ykaga

              and other members of the Northeastern MN Regional Development Project to

              see how they can help in the planning and grant application process.

 

Sewer District –. The Draft Preliminary Engineering Report for Puck’s Point

              Subordinate Sewer District can be viewed on the township website. 

           

Roads – They’re rough – dips have been marked with red flags.

 

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m.

 

The next meeting will be held on Monday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. at the Kabetogama Fire Station.
