REGULAR MEETING

March 6, 2007

 

Chairman Robert Nevalainen opened the meeting at 7:10 pm.  Board members present were Supervisors Richard McGregor, Edward Town, Clerk Mary Manninen and Treasurer Jean Reichow along with 9 guests.  All attending recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Agenda – Additional items were added to the agenda.  New Business, Local Board of Appeal and Tourism Bureau Directors.  Supervisor Edward moved to approve the agenda with the additions.  Supervisor Richard McGregor seconded all approved.  Motion carried.

 

Minutes – the minutes of the February 6th. meeting were read and approved on a motion by Supervisor Richard McGregor, seconded by Supervisor Edward Town.  Motion carried.

Supervisor Edward Town moved to accept the treasurer’s reports as read seconded by Supervisor Richard McGregor.  Motion carried.

 

Old Business: 

 

Supervisor Edward Town and Phil Hart attended a public meeting in Orr, MN regarding information about a Federal Prison location.  It was made known that our area was interested in keeping up on all information regarding this matter.  Phil Hart drafted a letter to be sent to Congressman Oberstar stating the same interest in the matter.  Supervisor Edward Town moved to have the letter sent to Orr, MN to be included with their letter being sent to Congressman Oberstar.  Supervisor Richard McGregor seconded and Chairman Robert Nevalainen voted no on the matter.  The motion was passed on a two to one vote.

 

Chairman Robert Nevalainen spoke with a township attorney regarding paying or donating money to the Kabetogama Lake Association to pay the light bill down at the Walleye site.  He was informed that the township could not legally pay or donate this money to the Lake Association.  Chairman Robert Nevalainen moved to end all actions on this matter.  Supervisor Richard McGregor seconded, motion carried.

 

Clerk Mary Manninen will contact Bridget Chard to set up a date in April for the Puck’s Point residents to meet with the Engineers to discuss the preliminary Engineering Report.  Letters will be sent to the residents as soon as a date has been set.

 

New Business:

 

Supervisor Richard McGregor moved to accept the Directors for the Kabetogama Tourism Bureau, seconded by Supervisor Edward Town, motion carried.

 

Notice was given that the Local Board of Appeal will be held on April 26, at the Kabetogama Community Hall from 1:00 to 2:00 pm.

 

Community Center:  The planning and building committee met with the NE MN Regional Sustainable Development Committee in March.  The committee was very impressed with the presentation and was optimistic about being able to help with grants, plans, etc. for the new community center, with approval from their board.  A $200 scholarship has been granted to a member of the committee from Kabetogama to attend a conference on sustainable tourism, which will be held April 25&26 in Chaska.  Sande Moyer and Betsey Warrington are going to attend.  Betsey has applied for a second scholarship.  The committee will be asking the Township to support their attendance, financially, from the money in the Township budget allocated for the community center.  A questionnaire has been mailed out to community organizations requesting suggestions for use of the new center.  They will be returned by April 15.  Supervisor Richard McGregor moved to pay for the trip from the Community Building monies set aside in the township budget.  Supervisor Edward seconded the motion, motion carried.

 

Betsey Warrington gave a report from the planning commission meeting held on Monday, March 5th.  The complete minutes from that meeting can be seen on the township web site under Advisory Committees and then Planning Commission Minutes.
